As everyone has said, it's expensive, but it makes perfect rice every time. What I like most is that, compared to the steamer I used to use, I no longer have to time the other parts of the meal to the cooking of the rice since this cooker will keep it warm and ready to serve whenever it's needed. It has very good moisture control, a fact I learned when I accidentally left a half-cup worth of rice in the cooker overnight. After 11 hours on "warm" it was still moist and good to eat.
I don't think the (non-user replaceable) clock battery is an issue if you leave the unit plugged in most of the time like I do. It's only used when the AC power fails or it is unplugged.
